Showcase for the Arts

Each May AAUW of Whidbey Island presents a showcase for the artworks of the talented young men and women in our high schools. Art is submitted in four categories: wall art, photography, sculpture and wearable art which includes clothing and jewelry. Awards are given for first, second and third place. In some cases the judges also designate an entry honorable mention. The bracelet to the right by Carley Butikafer of Oak Harbor High School took first prize for jewelry in the 2010 Showcase.

The general public, parents and the student artists enjoy the exhibit throughout the day and then gather for the announcement of awards as well as an artists' raffle. AAUW members find this event especially rewarding as we have the opportunity to meet many of the student artists and talk with them about their work.
