American Association of University Women - AAUW
Whidbey Island

Scholarships

AAUW is committed to supporting education for women on the island, across the country and around the world. It is through education that women may most directly achieve their potential, become informed, skilled, thoughtful, contributors to our society and bring women's perspective to the challenges and decisions that face our world.

The Whidbey Island branch offers a series of scholarships to local high school graduates. This series is descibed below.

AAUW Whidbey Island Branch Scholarships

A scholarship is offered to one graduating female student from each of the three public high schools on Whidbey Island. Each student must have applied to or been accepted by an accredited four-year college or university. These scholarships are made possible by community support through our fund-raising events and generous individual donations. In 2013 these three scholarships were $2,000.00 each.

Brianne King, pictured to the left, was the 2003 recipient of our Coupeville grant. Brianne or Bri attended Willamette University in Salem graduating Phi Beta Kappa in exercise science. She went on to earn her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of the Pacific. She is now well into her career as a clinical therapist in orthopedics.

Dale Fischer Memorial Art Scholarship

A named scholarship for $600.00 will be awarded to a female high school senior who wishes to pursue study in the arts. The student must have applied to or been accepted by an accredited four-year college, university, or art school. This grant is funded by Ms. Sarah Richards of Lavender Wind Farm in memory of her friend Ms. Dale Fischer, a high school friend who turned her hand to art and created beautiful items for the rest of her life. It is in memory of Dale's talent and grace as an individual that this scholarship is being funded.
