Rose's Gourmet

Rose’s Gourmet Group meets for lunch the 4th Thursday of every month except June, July, August and December. Members meet in the home of the month's hostess who selects the theme and supplies the drinks, but does not cook. Themes have been regional, ethnic, a holiday, a color, a fruit, or cooking with a certain ingredient. When the theme was garlic dinner consisted of soup, salad, several main dishes and even chocolate-coated garlic for dessert.

The group is named after long-time member Rose Chin Brousseau. Rose was born in China before the Mao revolution and found her way to the United States in 1947. She met her husband, Mahlon in 1959. They came to Coupeville in 1970 and opened the Six Persimmons restaurant and Chinese Cooking School. Many Whidbey youths fondly recall their first jobs in the employ of Rose and Mahlon. We lost Rose in 2008, but her love of cooking lives on with members who remember her enthusiasm, energy and generosity.

Rose's Gourmet welcomes new members.
