2015/2016 Calendar

General Meeting venues are split evenly between the north and the south with four in the Coupeville - Oak Harbor area and four in the Freeland area. Special events and fundraisers are located at various locations around the island.

2015 Summer Events

September 5, 2015 - Terrific Treasures Sale

A grand array of treasures collected throughout the year and offered in the first event of our new year. Proceeds go to our various scholarship funds. As the Branch is a designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization all purchases are considered donations and may be claimed as tax deductible.

Potluck Brunch Social - Please bring a dish to share! We are going to get re-acquainted after the summer break and our newest members will introduce themselves. The 2015 - 2016 calendar will be reviewed. Sign-up sheets for various interest groups, branch projects and fundraisers for the coming year will be available.

January 9, 2016- AAUW - League of Women Voters Legislative Brunch

In lieu of a January general meeting, we continue our tradition of co-sponsoring with the League of Women Voters, an annual Legislative Brunch. Our state senator and representatives and our island mayors have been invited. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear from our legislators and to ask questions about issues relevant to our mission. Please be prepared to ask about both workplace equity and education for women.

January 25, 2016 - Lobby Day in Olympia

Branch members who elect to take part in Lobby Day will travel to Olympia on the afternoon of Sunday the 24th. Carpools are often utilized given the distance. Members also elect to reserve hotel rooms for an overnight. Presentations to AAUW attendees by state officials begin at 8:00 am on Monday the 25th. Legislative meetings begin at 1:00 at the Capitol Building offices of our legislators. AAUW members may join meetings in progress.

March 12, 2016 - Women in History Celebration

Women in History Month will be celebrated with portrayals by our AAUW members of women who made a difference. We offer a special welcome those members of the League of Women Voters who will be joining us for this meeting. These performances will subsequently be presented to Whidbey Island fifth graders across the island.

The 2016-2017 slate of branch officers will be presented by the Nominating Committee.

March 24, 2016- Spring Fashion Show

This popular annual event features a wonderful brunch followed by AAUW members modeling spring fashions from a local shop. A raffle and silent auction raises additional funds that provide educational support and scholarships for young women of Whidbey.

2016 Spring Events

April 19, 2016 - Scholars Recognition Reception

High school STEM scholars and scholarship recipients will be honored at an evening reception introducing the young women their families and guests. Refreshments will be served.

May 6-7, 2016 - Showcase of the Arts

The branch recognizes the artistic talents of our young people in this annual show with entries from students of all three Whidbey Island high schools. Awards are given in five categories - wall art, sculpture, pottery, photography and wearable art/jewelry.

Friday May 6, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Reception for artists and their families. Presentation of Awards. Open to the community.
